Description
Hermes, the messenger of the gods, is the protective deity of travelers, commerce, merchants, thieves, and oratory. He is depicted wearing a golden winged wreath, winged shoes, and holding his iconic golden staff, and is accompanied by two doves.
Hermes is one of the twelve Olympian gods. As the patron of merchants, travelers, traffic, thieves, shepherds, and gymnastics, he serves as the messenger between the gods and humans, and guides the deceased to the underworld, Hades. With the wings on his shoes, Hermes is able to move faster than light. Many inventions are attributed to him, including astronomy, the Greek alphabet, scales, boxing, the lyre, and the shepherd's flute.
